Pursuit to Holiness Pt 4
We must put Jesus on daily. We must walk in complete and extreme obedience;
clinging to Him for our every need. We must walk in repentance daily. Repentance
should be a lifestyle. We will need to trust in Him and put our whole faith into action.
We must be doers not hears only; lest we deceive ourselves. We must retain and
keep all the knowledge of God in our minds and not dismiss or reject it. We must run to
Jesus and His Word before anything else. Jesus and the Word comes before the
doctor, pill bottle, friends to vent, and even our spouses. Take it all to Jesus FIRST.
We are commanded to love God w/ all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and that
means we go to Him first thing in the morning and run to Him first w our needs,
issues, or problems. We must learn to fight from victory than defeat. If we are
wearing our armor daily and were on alert to combat the enemy and our focus is
on Him; we’re in right standing w Him; being led by the Holy Ghost; then we have
nothing to fear! We will walk in complete trust and faith.
We must let the Holy Spirit lead us to all necessary purging, cleansing, and examining of
our own hearts and minds. We must allow Him to completely purge us from all and any filth
. We must walk in Him daily w a clean and renewed mind. There’s only one way to do that
and that’s to wash your mind w/ the Word of God. We need to learn to get to a point where
all we learn, speak and think of is the Word. Put on the new man! Crucify the flesh and we
will not be led away by lust to sin.
It’s not always easy or comfortable to ask the Holy Spirit to have total reign in us and
come in and purge, cleanse, and discipline us, but we must allow it to happen!
The devil lurks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He only
comes to steal, kill and destroy. He will wait for us to get distracted, down, sick, hurt, depressed, or even in victory when we have backed off when we have gotten what we
want. We must remain on high alert at all times! The devil never sleeps nor slumbers.
He doesn’t get tired and will never quit, but praise God, neither does He!
We serve the greatest victor, Lord, and King overall!
Always pursue righteousness and holiness; it’s a daily journey.
REPENT
And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Acts 3:19
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that
times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
The Purge:
Isaiah 1:25 I will turn my hand against you; I will thoroughly purge
away your dross and remove all your impurities.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD:
though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red
like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Ephesians 5:3-20 :3 But among you there must not be even a hint of
sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are
improper for God’s holy people. 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking,
which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5For of this you can be sure: No
immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance
in the kingdom of Christ and of God. a 6Let no one deceive you with empty words,
for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
Therefore do not be partners with them. 8For you were once darkness, but now you are
light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all
goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.
11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
12It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything
that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise
from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” 15Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most
of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish,
but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to
debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms,
hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,
20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
Psalm 51:2 & 7 2 Wash me throughly from my iniquity, And cleanse
me from my sin. 7 Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and
I shall be whiter than snow.
1 Corinthians 5:6-8 Immorality Rebuked …6 Your boasting is not good.
Do you not know that a little leaven works through the whole batch of dough?
7Get rid of the old leaven, that you may be a new unleavened batch, as you really are.
For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. therefore let us keep the feast, not
with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened
bread of sincerity and of truth.…
Malachi 3:2-3 The Coming Day of Judgment …2But who can endure
the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He will be like a
refiner’s fire, like a launderer’s soap. 3 And He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver;
He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver.
Then they will present offerings to the LORD in righteousness.
Psalm 66:10 For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us like silver.
Proverbs 25:4 Remove the dross from the silver, and a vessel for a
silversmith will come forth.
Isaiah 1:25 I will turn My hand against you; I will thoroughly purge your dross;
I will remove all your impurities.
Jeremiah 9:7 Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts says: "Behold,
I will refine them and test them, for what else can I do because of the daughter
of My people?
Obedience:
So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then.
Hebrews 12:1-21
1:3 A Call to Endurance
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author, and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
4-13 God Disciplines His Sons 4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not take lightly the discipline of the Lord, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises every son He receives.”b7Endure suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8If you do not experience discipline like everyone else, then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. 9 Furthermore, we have all had earthly fathers who disciplined us, and we respected them. Should we not much more submit to the Father of our spirits and live?10 Our fathers disciplined us for a short time as they thought best, but God disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in His holiness. 11 No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields a harvest of righteousness and peace to those who have been trained by it.12 Therefore strengthen your limp hands and weak knees. 13 Make straight paths for your feet,e so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.
14-17A Call to Holiness
14 Pursue peace with everyone, as well as holiness, without which no one will
see the Lord. 15 to it that no one falls short of the grace of God, and that no root of
bitterness springs up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See to it that no one is
sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his birthright.
17 For you know that afterward when he wanted to inherit the blessing,
he was rejected. He could find no ground for repentance, though he sought the
blessing with tears.
A Call to Holiness
13 Therefore prepare your minds for action.c Be sober-minded. Set your
hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
14 As obedient children, do not conform to the passions of your former ignorance. 15 But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, 16 for it is
written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”17 Since you call on a Father who judges
each one’s work impartially, conduct yourselves in reverent fear during your
stay as foreigners. 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as
silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited
from your forefathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without
blemish or spot. 20He was known before the foundation of the world, but was
revealed in the last times for your sake.21 Through Him you believe in God, who
raised Him from the dead and glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God.
Isaiah 40:6–8 The Enduring Word 22 Since you have purified your
souls by obedience to the truth so that you have a genuine love for your
brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart. 23 For you have been born
again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring
word of God. 24 For,“All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the
field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,25 but the word of the Lord stands
forever.” And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.
2 Cor 10:3-8 For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to
the flesh. 4The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world.
Instead, they have the divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We tear down arguments
and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive
every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish
every act of disobedience, as soon as your obedience is complete.
7You are looking at outward appearances. If anyone is confident
that he belongs to Christ, he should remind himself that we belong to
Christ just as much as he does. 8 For even if I boast somewhat excessively about
the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than tearing you down,
I will not be ashamed.
Put On the New Self
Colossians 3:1-17 1 Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ,
strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your
minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now
hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will
appear with Him in glory.
5 Put to death, therefore, the components of your earthly nature: sexual
immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these,
the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience. 7 When you lived among them,
you also used to walk in these ways. 8 But now you must put aside all such
things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its
practices, 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the
image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised,
barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free, but Christ is all and is in all.
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with
hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13Bear with one
another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the
Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of
perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were
called as members of one body. And be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you as you teach and admonish
one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs
with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do it
all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
James 1:22 You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only
fooling yourselves. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only,
deceiving yourselves
2 Corinthians 13:5-7Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith;
prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you,
except ye be reprobates?
2 Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do
these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
2 Corinthians 10:5 We tear down arguments, and every presumption
set up against the knowledge of God; that sets itself up against the
knowledge of God, and we ... captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. We
destroy ... proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God.
2 Peter 1:2 May God give you more and more grace and peace as you
grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you
have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you
have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
Proverbs 2:1-22 1My son, if thou wilt receive my words, And lay up
my commandments with thee;
2 So as to incline thine ear unto wisdom, And apply thy heart to understanding;
3Yea, if thou cry after discernment, And lift up thy voice for understanding;
4 If thou seek her as silver, And search for her as for hid treasures:
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, And find the knowledge of God.
6 For Jehovah giveth wisdom; Out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding:
7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to them that
walk in integrity;
8 That he may guard the paths of justice, And preserve the way of his saints.
9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness and justice, And equity, yea , every
good path.
10 For wisdom shall enter into thy heart, And knowledge shall be pleasant unto
thy soul;
11Discretion shall watch over thee; Understanding shall keep thee:
12To deliver thee from the way of evil, From the men that speak perverse things;
13Who forsake the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness;
14Who rejoice to do evil, And delight in the perverseness of evil;
15Who are crooked in their ways, And wayward in their paths:
16To deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the foreigner that flattereth
with her words;
17That forsaketh the friend of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God:
18 For her house inclineth unto death, And her paths unto the dead;
19None that go unto her return again, Neither do they attain unto the paths of life:
20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the
righteous.
21For the upright shall dwell in the land, And the perfect shall remain in it.
22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the land, And the treacherous shall be
rooted out of it.
Proverbs 3:5-6
5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
